On this video I’m demonstrating how to make your own brown bread at home. Using the Atta Mark 1 flour is one way to go about it as if you don’t have whole wheat flour. Get tips and tricks on how to make bread and I hope you enjoy yours.
Ingredients:
2 cups (260 gms) whole wheat flour
1/2 cup (65 gms) All-purpose flour
2 teaspoons (1 packet / 10 grams) instant yeast
2 Tablespoons sugar (or honey but add honey after the milk)
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (240 mL), heated to 50-55°C for instant yeast
2 Tablespoons (30 mL) Vegetable oil
1 egg
about 1/4 cup additional all-purpose flour
Instructions:
Place flours, yeast, sugar & salt in a large mixing bowl.
Stir in milk, followed by oil and egg.
Using a wooden spoon, stir the mix for about 3-4 min
Add the remaining 1/4 cup of all purpose flour and mix into the soft dough.
Use your hand to knead until the dough starts peel off your container.
Transfer from the dough to a floured surface and make about 50 turns(folding the dough over and over again until you count 50)
Cover and rest the dough for about 10 minutes
Shape the dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan.
Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm spot until it’s one inch taller than the pan, about 40 minutes. You can use your oven while at 50ºC(it’s lowest setting)
Meantime, preheat oven to 180°C.
Bake for 30 minutes. After the first 15 minutes, I cover the top of the loaf with a foil tent to prevent over-browning.
